Pools in Santa Clarita

Santa Clarita Aquatic Center

The weather in Santa Clarita is great for swimming. Many homes have their own private pools, but one of the most family-friendly features of the SCV is the community (HOA) and city pools that are available. There is a long-standing Swim Team tradition between various HOA teams as well as city teams. Swimmers can move on to participate in private/club swim if they wish to become more competitive: Canyons is a world-class club that has trained Olympians. Local high schools also have strong swim programs.

Most swim teams take place during the summer (June and July) and have *daily* workouts.

HOA Teams: Joining these teams is dependent on your home address! So if you live in the right neighborhood you can join the team. Costs are minimal but teams do require parent volunteer hours. Old Orchard I Dolphins, Old Orchard II Sharks, Valencia Hills Waves, and Valencia Summit Seals.

City Swim Team: Don't worry if you're not buying or renting in one of these four neighborhoods! There are plenty of opportunities to join a swim team with the city. Costs are still quite low and no parental volunteer hours are necessary. Some families choose city swim teams instead of HOA leagues because there are more options and flexibility with training times and meets. Check for sign-up deadlines to get your preferred location and practice time.

Canyons Swim Team at College of the Canyons: Canyons offers swim classes and swim teams. This is where you go if you're interested in competitive swimming. Workouts are year round. Olympians who trained at Canyons include Abby Weitzel, Anthony Ervin and Gabe Woodward.

Paseo Club: The Paseo Club is a private gym but you can join just the swim team here for year round work outs as well.

Santa Clarita Aquatic Center: Most city swim team meets take place at the Aquatic Center lanes. Lanes can be reserved for swim workouts. There is an additional play area that is open to the public most of the time. During the summer there is a snack bar as well.

Heads up: to use the slides swim suits CAN NOT have metal grommets. Super aggravating. I think the metal grommets scratch the slide? You can buy plastic protectors but they never work for me (they don't stay on). I have literally cut out the grommets from a swimsuit so my boys can ride the slides. Try to wear a swimsuit without them if you can :)

Castaic Aquatic Center: The Castaic pool is much smaller than the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center but it's an easy drive on the 5 and has a fun splash pad for younger children. We go here for a change of pace sometimes. It was a good place to practice swimming in a smaller pool when my kids were younger: there's a lap area that is more shallow. Classes and swim teams are also available here.

For some reason, the best HOA pools are on east side of the freeway. Stevenson Ranch generally does not have HOA pools (many homes there have their own pools). The exception is the Westridge community pools which do not have swim teams.

Lots of Lifeguard Training Options

Again, these options are generally Newhall centered. More ideas for pools and swim teams? Leave your comments below!
